Minutes - September 3, 2008

The meeting was opened by President Bob A. at 1930.

Treasurer's Report: On hand $595.20. New member Travis Hart signed up. A motion was made by Richard P. to approve the Treasurer's Report and 2nd by Dave C. The motion carried.

Minutes from the meeting of August 6, 2008 were submitted for approval as e-mailed to the members with the change in paragraph 1. Old Business, sub-paragraph A. as follows: "Rex Speed" changed to Rex Sperry". A motion to accept the minutes as changed was made by Dave C. and 2nd by Richard P. The motion carried.

Old Business:

  1. Operation committee's reports:
    1. Watering System - Bob M., Richard P. and Jerry J.
      1. Jerry J. reported the irregation system lost its prime because of the low water in the ditch. Prime was restored when the water level raised.
      2. Plans to improve access to the water system piping shed north of the field were made. A tenative date of that work was set for Saturday, October 4. Jerry J. coordinator.
    2. Gopher Control - Bob M. reported that two gophers have been seen to move into our field area. The report was given to Bob and he said he is on their trail and will correct the intrusion.
    3. Weed Control - David C. assisted by Bob M. David C. reported all weeds are under control.
    4. Mowing - Jerry J. assisted by Dave C. Dave C. reported the wheels on the mower are repaired and the mower operates better than before.
    5. Safety - Richard P. reported there have been no safety violations reported other than accidental loss of control due to wind etc. He said he is working on a clearer definition for the no-fly zone and will report on it when finished.
  2. Flight Simulator Status - Scott P. and Richard P. in possession.
  3. Fun Fly - August 23 - Richard P. reported that George K. won top honors with Jerry H. Jr. and Todd H. coming in 2nd and 3rd. The rules had been improved. The were 7 flyers. Bob A. voiced a concern about using sticky masking tape on the limbo event. Apparently twice as his plane passed under the tape it stuck to his a/c's tail and threw it back for a loss. The matter was discussed very seriously but no action taken. Bob did not press the matter further.
  4. Combat Fly Meet in Eastern Idaho - Ken S. reported they all had a good time with Ken S. coming in 4th and Jerry H.Jr. 5th. Attendee's were Ken S., Jerry H.Jr, his son Jerry H. Jr,Jr, and Bob A.
  5. The concrete sign at the entrance road to the field was repaired by Jeff D. to the extent of erasing the graffiti. It was further discussed to commission Amber Heintz, Todd H.'s daughter, to repaint the sign. Dave C. also suggested a graffiti proof paint to be used. This action was tabled.
New Business:
  1. September 6 - Scale and open class Combat Meet. Chet C. - Organizer. Chet reported registration will at 9AM and start combat at 10AM. Volunteers needed to help with the event.
  2. September 13 - Ontario Air Fair - SRVM to have a display or not, that is the question. The question was discussed and it was decided not to have a display because there have been no obvious results in new member applicants due to the display.
  3. September 20 SRVM Open House at our flying field. It was discussed that the news media and as much publication be made about the Open House. Richard P. will develop a flyer to announce the event and will e-mail a copy to Jerry H. Sr. for forwarding to the local newspapers. Bob A. said he could set up an interview with KSRV radio. The special new membership dues of $30 would be also offered on conjunction with the event. The hours of the Open House will be from 10AM to 2PM.
  4. New Officers of SRVM Club for 2009 - Jerry J. reminded the members that we should be thinking about nominations for the October meeting, voting on the November meeting and installation of the new officers at the December meeting and dinner.
  5. Next meeting will be, Wednesday, October 1, 2008, 1930 hours, at the Oregon Trail Hobbies and Gifts (come in the back door).
